Donations Help Raise Thousands with James Martin

Guests at the james Martin Dinner Ellenborough Park with James Martin and James Day

Last weekend saw a very special event being held at Ellenbprough Park Country House Hotel, just outside Cheltenham.

The evening organised by Cotswold Style magazine hosted a Tayabali Tomlin sponsored charity dinner with chef James Martin at Ellenborough Park on 20 July 2013. The event was held in aid of two local charities; Gloucestershire Community Foundation and the Cheltenham Branch of Cruse Bereavement.

In glorious sunshine, approximately 100 guests arrived for a champagne reception with canapés in the grounds of the Cotswolds hotel, which overlooks Cheltenham Racecourse. Introductory speeches were made by Richard Levinge on behalf of Cruse Bereavement, Helen Lovatt on behalf of GCF and Aynsley Damery for Tayabali Tomlin. Following a four course dinner, James Martin spoke to the guests and signed copies of his latest book – Slow Cooking.  The evening was rounded off by a charity auction, which raised a significant sum of money for the charities involved. Prizes included donations from Gourmet-Life - Lifestyle Dining Club Proprietor James Day, who kindly arranged donations of experiences from their partners Adams Restaurant in Birmingham, Turners Michelin Restaurnt in Birmingham, and Ellenborough Park. The final surprise lot was drawn together by James from his Relish Cook Book and Gourmet-Life partners The Feathered Nest at Nether Westcote (recent winners of Best Pub Restaurant at the Cotswold Life Food & Drink Awards) and James Martin and alone raised £8,000. Total funds raised were in excess of £15,000.

James Day said  “We were delighted to be asked by Paul Bates of Cotswold Style to sponsor such a wonderful event for many reasons; the involvement of James Martin, the lovely venue and most importantly because of the excellent work done by GCF and Cruse. Amazing charities that put so much effort in to changing the lives of others. The generousity of our partner restaurants certainly helped raise their awareness amongst fellow guests, and of course raise much needed funds for these worthy causes - it was a great night, an everyone seemed to have a great time.!”
